Zayra A talented Puerto Rican singer from Texas with one hell of a vocal range; her music rocks. Check out Alma Boricua! She sings in Spanish, but it doesn't really matter. Her voice is seriously universal.

Great mixtape downloads! It could have become just another blog. Instead, PanacheSounds became a place where namedropping reigned supreme while the Jolly Roger pirate radio - over 7½ hours worth of zig-zaggy, and indeed jolly, pop music from the world's cultural corners - streamed beatless in a fantasy world where paisley shirts go bonga bonga in Tahonga, skipping on crystal rocks, skimming through Parisian mists, making their way back to the real life.

If Jesus Drove a Motorhome I've been reading a lot about musicians and other artists protesting Bush and/or the war. Here's a link to a video that I found interesting both for its content and its execution.

I like it because, although it definitely has something to say about Bush and company (check out the infinitely creepy praying mantis monster at the end), it doesn't restrict its message to I hate Bush. Instead, it kind of holds everyone responsible for their part in encouraging hatred and violence.

Anyway, I thought it was an interesting approach and one I'd not seen before.

Here is another anti-Bush song coming down the pipe just in time beofre the election. It is amazing the creativity that this regime has inspired, and here is another example of it.......

The most beautiful sound next to silence. EMC has been at the forefront of new music, particularly new jazz, for some time, and has been successful in crafting a label image in its packaging and in its artist choice that is easily recognizable - ECM's albums are very much like the Bluenote albums of the late 50's and 60's.
EMC's artist list includes Keith Jarrett, Bill Frisell, Paul Motion, Paul Bley, Dave Holland, and many others. Any Favorites?

Hip Hop act has Native Americans hopping mad at performance. Indian groups are calling for a boycott of the CBS television network and the GRAMMY music awards after Sunday night's broadcast of the rap group Outkast, who performed their song "Hey Ya," while dressed in fake and garrish Indian attire. The fuss has already forced CBS to formally apologize. I agree that the performance may have been in bad taste, but I fail to see how it is racist and degrading to Native Americans. Will this, combined with the Janet incident kill live television performance as we know it?

The Bodhisattvas of Babylon are a model for obsessional fan sites. They have all the texts of hundreds songs of the Russian group Akvarium [Russian] online, as well as a fair number translated, and individual reviews of each of the 156 albums (including bootlegs and collaberations) involving the group, rated from Bodhisattva and Do Not Buy This. Be introduced to the group here. Get rocked by Rock and Roll's Dead, shake your booty to the Tibetan Tango, get uplifted by Nikita Ryazinsky.
